Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in November of 1963, Clyde Lovett was
raised in the adjacent town of Belmont.
An introspective nature, compounded by the premature death
of his parents, destined Lovett to spend many hours, days, and months
alone. He learned to seek companionship and guidance from the infinite
blank page, which he filled voraciously from age eight.
For years, introspection and the peace of the natural
world was his only true passion. The ocean was his first love, and the
sailboat was the way to be with his love.
At age 15 Mr. Lovett learned to sail and never turned
away. Finding his way onto large ocean going yachts he soon became a qualified
and licensed yacht captain and earned his living thus for 17 years, a
career punctuated with some time for education and a tour on his own boat,
Renasissance, a 31 foot Southern Cross cutter.
In January of 1992, after a sail across the South Pacific,
Lovett returned his boat from San Francisco to Boston, alone.
His experience alone with self and the sea led to the
writing of the book Imperfect Calm, featured on this web site.
